Calculate the net efficiency of any electric vehicle (EV) in terms of amp-hours and watt-hours per mile, as well as the gross utility meter rate useage in kilowatt-hours (kWh) per mile. To get accurate AC power data, use an inexpensive current monitor like the Kill-a-Watt. Any reliable DC battery monitor, like the Xantrex LinkLITE and LinkPRO, will provide in-vehicle battery pack amp-hour use data. An inexpensive smart phone application, like Speed Box Lite for the iPhone, can provide a GPS adjustment for odometers than cannot be digitally calibrated. For an extensive discussion of this calculator, download Accounting for EV Energy Consumption, a Kriss Motors ebook publication.
